My Edge Software, LLC is the offspring of "Etlon Software," which has been doing business since 1984. Since our founding, we have always endeavored to write reliable, polished software with a characteristic we like to call "elegance", both in terms of how the software is written, and how the software presents itself to the user. For many years we did this in the context of consulting and contract programming for a variety of other companies. Now, under the new trade name of "My Edge Software, LLC", we are applying those same talents, skills, and principles toward end-user software, to make life just a bit smoother for you folks.

Our first product offering, My Edge Home Inventory, is designed to provide you with a level of security in regard to your possessions. Why did we write such a program? Because we think making an inventory of your valuables is a good thing to do. It could possibly even be a critical thing to do. (As mentioned on the My Edge Home Inventory product page, we really did watch our neighbor's house burn to the ground one cold February night.) Interestingly, many people we have spoken to say they have intended to do just that very thing for several years, but have never gotten around to doing it (that is, make an inventory of their household, not burn their house down ;-). It is, after all, a daunting task if you don't have something that can make it significantly easier. That's why we wrote My Edge Home Inventory in the first place, and that's why we designed it the way we did. We believe it has some unique features that make the whole task of inventorying your household significantly easier. That's the elegance we built into it. But what is the benefit of inventorying your valuables? Those of you who own houses, no doubt, have home owner's insurance that provides protection against catastrophic loss of your home and/or its contents. If you rent your dwelling, you probably have renter's insurance to cover your possessions. But making an inventory of your valuables can serve to make either kind of insurance more effective in several ways. First, it can help you determine whether the insurance you have is adequate. It can also bring to light things you own that might be excluded from your insurance coverage, such as certain computer equipment, expensive jewelry, or antiques.

Secondly, if you were to suffer a catastrophic loss of your valuables, a home inventory can help you recover that loss as much as possible when dealing with your insurance company during the claims process. In particular, you will have some proof that you really did own the items that you claim to have owned. You will not be left to the discretion of the insurance adjuster to merely make blanket estimates of the value of the possessions you lost, which are based upon tables of estimates of other households which may or may not be similar to your own. Thirdly, if you have used My Edge Home Inventory to make an inventory of your home, and then your house is burglarized, you will have descriptions, cost estimates, serial numbers, and photographs to give the police. That will greatly increase your chances of getting your valuables back again if the police are able to catch the bad guys.

As we state on the product page, we are not trying to frighten you into buying My Edge Home Inventory. Hopefully none of these bad things will ever happen to you. But if you did inventory your valuables with My Edge Home Inventory, we are quite sure you will be very glad you did. However, My Edge Home Inventory is not intended to be our only product. It is merely our first product. My Edge Software has plans for many more software products that will be geared toward making your life just a bit easier and perhaps even a bit more enjoyable.
